The end of This Ain’t?
June 17, 2010Terribly frustrating news out of Toronto. One of my favourite independent bookstores, This Ain’t the Rosedale Library, is facing big problems. They have been suffering landlord and back rent trouble for a while and now they’ve been locked out of their store. It sounds like their landlord is being particularly unreasonable and unkind. Awful affair.
For those of you who don’t know the store, This Ain’t The Rosedale Library is the real deal – it supports small presses, local writers, the Toronto arts community – and it needs to stay open. They’ve launched a fund-raising campaign on PayPal to help them pay their back rent and reopen their doors. If you can send them 10 or 20 dollars it might well save one of the last and best refuges for readers and writers in Toronto.
Here’s the link to their page with their account of this mess: www.thisaint.ca
(Proof of my affection for the store can be found *here*)
Aux armes !!!
UPDATE : The store went under. Depressing.
