August 18, 2015Fantastic news: a brilliant new film project has landed in Marseille and I am their English liaison. The plan is to make a Cities of Love movie. These are a series of films that gives celebrated directors and actors (think Coen brothers, Scarlett Johansson, Shia Labeouf, etc. etc.) a carte blance to make interconnected short movies that explore the notion of love within one city. There’s already been Paris, je t’aime, New York, I Love You, and Rio, Eu Te Amo. Berlin and Delhi are in production. And we are going to make Marseille, je t’aime.
Thus far, the films have had an impressive amount of success. The Paris episode was a commercial and critical success, while the New York episode attracted stunning talent and a cult audience. But we are basing our production on the Rio model. For Rio Eu Te Amo, the production team set up a digital platform and social network campaign two years before filming. The goal was multi-fold: attract talent to the project; raise awareness about the project; get involve in community projects; and then leverage the dynamic community and built-in audience to raise enough money to make a superior film. This is what we are doing, with one special twist: we are specifically investing in young filmmakers and the film community in Marseille so that Marseille, je t’aime helps develop the local movie industry. Rising tides, all boats.
For this to happen, of course, we need to gather significant support. So, as the title suggests, like us please:
