Rencontres de Bamako

November 15, 2015

After having spent the better part of two months immersed in the world of African photography, I am delighted to the Biennale Africaine de la Photographie is now upon us. I was asked to translate the essays in the exhibition catalogue and oversee the overall proofreading. Nothing is more delightful that paid work that allows you to discover new artists…With my journalistic background, it won’t come as a surprise that my favorite images were the documentary work done during the Ebola outbreak in West Africa in 2014. The work of Emmanuel Bakary Daou was especially compelling, one of those rare moments when reality far exceeds imagination and fiction. My favorite photograph is below but you can see more of Daou’s *here* and learn more about the Biennale as a whole *here*
